Merritt, 2011

Found steel legs, reclaimed Heart pine, reclaimed brass. 44 x 32 x 27.5 inches,

My aesthetic approach: the fusion of old and new to create the timeless.
Recycling and recovery are at the core of my ethos. Found objects and discarded wood provide not only ecologically savvy raw material, but also the conceptual inspiration for the piece's re-incarnation.

I tap into the memories and experiences resonating from the found object. I look past flaws to mine the object’s rich functional and structural potential, challenging myself to bring these strengths to the fore.
My training as an architect plays an influential role in the re-design process.  The shapes, forms and proportions of my restored objects suggest order.  This marriage of form and function is my muse.  I strive to create pieces which are most beautiful when they are being used.  My work engages and emphasizes the increasingly porous borderline between utility and art, furniture and sculpture.
